Hi! Welcome to the beautiful resort town of Miri ! Located in Northern Sarawak, Miri is the gateway to this region and is also adjacent to the neighbouring country of Brunei. Being the first oil town in Malaysia, the petroleum industry has played a significant role in Miri's initial economic development, and subsequently other industries such as timber, oil palm and tourism have also contributed to its prosperity today. Miri's natural diversity offers visitors a wide range of attractions including the renowned Mulu Caves, spectacular Niah Caves, beautiful beaches, exciting game fishing, colourful coral reefs, natural tropical rainforests, and many many more. Miri Old Town located at High Street, China Street, Kingsway and Jalan Bendahara provides an excellent place for shopping. Other commercial centres like Beautiful Jade Centre, Morsjaya Commercial Centre, Pelita Commercial Centre, Saberkas Commercial Centre, Boulevard Commercial Centre, Bintang Jaya Commercial Centre and Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre also provides shoppers plenty of places to do their shopping. There are many modern shopping complexes in Miri such as Wisma Pelita, Soon Hup Tower, Servay Plaza, Bintang Plaza, Imperial Mall & Court, M Square Mall and Boulevard Shopping Complexes which make Miri a shopping paradise. A branch university from Australia, Curtin University of Technology was set up in the year 1999. In 2002, the newly-established Lutong Campus opened and is a world-class facility where stylish, architecturally-designed buildings complement state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and sophisticated IT linkages provide students access to the resources of Curtin at Bentley, Western Australia. The student population at the campus consists from a lot of nationalities. Beside local students, the campus also has students from Brunei, Indonesia, Nigeria, China, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Taiwan, Bangladesh and Jordan. Besides studying, some of these students can go visit some of the national parks in Miri. Parents who come over will also have the chance to go sightseeing around Miri. Curtin University Sarawak campus has lecturers from all over the world. They come from countries like Australia, India, Middle East, China, Myanmar, Russia, Egypt and Malaysia.
